About POPSO

The Play On Philly Symphony Orchestra (POPSO) is a tuition-free program designed to provide middle and high school students in the Philadelphia area, with intensive musical training. As a member of the flagship ensemble at Play On Philly, you will have opportunities to play across the region in various venues, experience personal growth through music, and create lasting friendships with other musicians. Our program also gives you the chance to learn from professional musicians in the instrument fields of strings, woodwinds, brass, and percussion.

Along with joining the ensemble, high school students can choose to attend POP’s Identity, Power, and Music (IPM) workshop. IPM students discuss issues of race, gender, and identity in the context of media, art, and music. Students practice discussion facilitation skills with their peers around issues of social justice, create music inspired by their own experiences, and see themselves as agents of change in the world.
